Arsenal face Declan Rice injury blow ahead of Champions League clash

Arsenal will be without midfielder Declan Rice when they travel to face Inter in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The midfielder joins the mounting list of Arsenal players sidelined with injury after picking up a knock during the Gunners’ 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United on Saturday. He has since been ruled out of their upcoming European clash with the Serie A giants, despite featuring in all of Arsenal’s previous games in the competition.

While Rice will not be a part of the squad on Wednesday, Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard could be involved after making a return to training. The Norwegian has missed the last two months of fixtures for Mikel Arteta’s side due to an ankle injury.

“The positive news is it’s great to have Martin back,” the Gunners boss told reporters during Tuesday’s press conference. “Obviously he’s trained with us for the first time, a full session today.

“He felt good, it’s a bit earlier than we expected, but he wanted to be with the team, so we’ll decide tomorrow whether we use him, but at least it’s a big step that he’s travelled with us and is part of the team.

“Declan unfortunately has picked up an injury against Newcastle. He was able to finish the game but he wasn’t feeling good in the last few days so we have to assess him on Thursday to understand whether he will be fit or not for the weekend.”

“It was a knock so it’s a problem with his foot. He wasn’t comfortable with it so at the moment he’s not fit.”

Arsenal will face Inter at the San Siro on Wednesday evening before returning to Premier League action at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea on Sunday.
