After The Election

By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter

I want to start by saying that every last word of this is an opinion that you may disagree with. You are, obviously, entitled to yours. This one is mine.

I feel very sad today having experienced what I feel has been an enormous assault by two political parties and their respective candidates for the past 18 or so months.

We all know that today is Election Day and that some people will rejoice, some will be angry and some will be somewhere between those two poles.

I wonder if it is possible, after all we have experienced, to practice how we can love one another, even as we hold different opinions and belong to different political tribes.

Can we practice holding our different political beliefs and, for one day, Wednesday, and simply think, “I hear you,” as we listen to different factions cry foul.

As Americans, we have a responsibility to ourselves and others.

There will be time for partisan rancor to re-surface as the next battle lines are drawn by puppet-masters who would make Goebbels proud.

I encourage you to try on Wednesday and see what you learn about yourself by practicing this simple and difficult behavior.

Thanks for hearing me.

If I did not express myself perfectly, I am sure you understand the gist of my request.

I would be honored if you shared this in places that you thought would benefit.
