The tragic discovery happened at the family’s home in the ski town of Taninges in the French Alps.
The three children, two boys aged two and 11, and a 13-year-old girl were found at around 1pm on Tuesday.
Their mum, considered a key suspect in the kids’ death, is missing.
She is believed to have fled to the mountains in the surrounding area, French newspaper Le Dauphiné Libéré reports.
The woman reportedly left a letter behind before fleeing.
It is not currently known what the letter says.
French cops have launched a probe and are searching for the 45-year-old school teacher alongside helicopter crews and diving squads.
The children’s death is being investigated as an “intentional homicide”.
The investigation has been handed over to the Bonneville public prosecutor’s office.
Bonneville’s district attorney, Boris Duffau, said initial findings indicated “the victims had stab wounds”.
“Autopsies and additional expert assessments will be carried out quickly by the Grenoble Institute of Forensic Medicine (IML), but initial findings have shown that the victims have stab wounds,” he said.
